緒言

　眼窩内における異物の報告例は，文献上かなり多数認められるが，異物の長さが眼窩軸以上に達する巨大鉄片異物の報告例は，きわめてまれである。今回，われわれは左眼に飛来した長さ9.5cm，直径2cm，重量147.5gの巨大鉄片が，眼窩下壁を破壊して，鼻中隔を穿孔し，右側軟口蓋にまで達した一例を経験した。このような例は内外の文献上いまだその記載がなく，稀有な例と思われるのでここに報告する次第である。

A farmer, 54-year-old male, was severely in-jured in his left orbit by an iron handle-grip which was accidentally flung off a flywheel of kerosene power-generator for his threshing machine.

The foreign body broke through the left inferior orbital wall to penetrate the nasal septum to reach the soft palate. The iron piece measured 9.5cm in length, 2.0cm in diameter and 147.5g in weight. While the left eyeball was ruptured by the trauma, the cranial cavity and the fellow eye were spared from injury.
