After chromatic adaptation, the Rayleigh equations by Nagel's anomaloscope shifted in normal subjects. In the present study, patients with retinal diseases or optic atrophy were exa-mined as regards Rayleigh and brightness equ-ations after chromatic adaptation. The wavele-ngths of 480,540 and 580nm were used for chro-matic adaptation.

The patients with optic atrophy showed a shifting of Rayleigh equations towards the red after chromatic adaptation with wavelengths of 540 or 580nm, while the brightness equations remained stationary before and after chromatic adaptation.
