  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The polarity of the off-effect of the normal human ERG varies with stimulus intensity, being negative in response to dim stimulus and positive when the stimulus is bright. The ne-gative off-effect is absent and the positive off-effect present in stationary congenital night blindness. The negative off-effect is present and the positive off-effect unrecordable in rod monochromatopsia. These results. in conjunc-tion with evidence from spectral sensitivity, indicate that the negative and positive off-effects are closely related to rod and cone sys-tems respectively under our recording condi-tions.
