1. The metal locator as originally developed by Berman Laboratory has been put to clinical use by the present authors. Preliminary studies have shown that, while ferrous material, brass, copper and aluminium can be detected by the locator, the presence of stainless steel can not be elicited through the apparatus.

2. Extraction of intraocular or intraorbital metallic foreign body following perforating injuries have been conducted in 24 clinical cases with the use of the metal locator. The extirpa-tion could be conducted with the greatest ease in cases with ferrous foreign bodies.
