EOG and ERG of Intra-ocular Injuries due to Iron Piece Invasion

I．緒言

　眼外傷に併発する化膿性炎症による失明は，近年各種の抗生物質，ステロイド製剤，代謝促進剤等の開発により，しだいにその姿を消しつつある。

　しかし，眼球鉄片外傷の場合の予後は，単純な眼外優とは異なつて複雑な進行過程をとり，いまだ不幸な運命を辿る率が高い。すなわち，本症は，飛入した鉄片の種類，大小，形状，侵入部位，停留部位，停留期間等の諸条件により，種々の合併症を惹起せしめ，鉄片の摘出方法および治療方針の決定は今日なお困難とされている。

EOG and ERG recordings were obtained and analyzed in 16 cases with ocular injury due to penetrating iron piece occurring under various conditions. Following five types could be iden-tified according to characteristic EOG and ERG findings.

Type 1 (with normal EOG and normal ERG). This type was found in injured eyes in which small iron piece invaded the sclera or the lens. These cases had a favorable prognosis and could he brought to cure through treatment wi-thout any residual damage to the retina.

Type 2 (with subnormal EOG and non-recor-dable ERG).
