Clinical Effect of α-Mercaptopropionyl Glycine on Epidemic Keratoconjunctivitis

I．緒言

　流行性角結膜炎（以下EKC）は，その起炎病原体に対する有効な薬剤を欠くために，多数の患者があり，中には重症な点状表層角膜炎を起して永く視力障害を残す者があり，このことは眼科専門医の少ない地方に著しいと思う。

　文献によると，強力ネオミノファーゲンC （以下SNMC）が有効であるとする報告と，強力パニールチン（以下SP）が有効であるとする報告とがある。この2剤は共にシスチン（前者は還元態のシスティン）を含有している。

383 cases with active epidemic keratoconjun-ctivitis (EKC) were treated by systemic admi-nistration of α-mercaptopropionyl glycine (Thi-ola) at an average daily dosis of 600 mg.

1. Administration of Thiola was followed by rapid improvement in the severity of conjunc-tivitis. In a few cases in which the sympto-ms persisted or progressed further in spite of treatment, amelioration set in through increase of the dosis of administered Thiola.

2. In treated cases in which corneal punctate opacity developed, the cloudiness took a minute punctate pattern and seldom evolved into gross macular opacities.
