Abstract. Purpose:To report and compare the outcome of patterned laser trabeculoplasty(PLT)and selective laser trabeculoplasty(SLT)for open-angle glaucoma. Cases and Method:This study was made on 24 eyes of 21 patients. The age ranged from 18 to 88 years, average 64 years. The series comprised primary open-angle glaucoma 16 eyes, steroid glaucoma 4 eyes, exfoliation glaucoma 3 eyes, and pigmentary glaucoma 2 eyes. PLT was performed in 12 and SLT in 12 eyes. The two groups were similar regarding age, sex or type of glaucoma. Intraocular pressure(IOP)averaged 21.8±5.0 mmHg in PLT group and 23.8±6.7 mmHg in SLT group. Results:Six months after treatment, IOP averaged 14.3±3.3 mmHg in PLT group and 17.3±3.4 mmHg in SLT group. Rate of reduction in IOP averaged 33% in PLT group and 22% in SLT group. There was no significant difference in IOP decrease between the two groups. Conclusion:PLT showed IOP-reducing effect similar to SLT during 6 months of observation.
