Abstract. Purpose:To report the band connecting the superior and lateral rectus muscles in eyes with high myopia and its role in impaired ocular motility. Cases and Method:This study was made on 34 eyes with myopia greater than -8 diopters. Abduction was unlimited in 10 eyes, mildly limited in 14 eyes, and was severely limited in 10 eyes. Magnetic resonance imaging was used to visualize the orbit and the band between superior and lateral rectus muscles. Results:The band was displaced in the superior temporal direction, was attenuated, or lacked continuity in 9 eyes(90%)with unlimited abduction, 14 eyes(100%)with mildly limited abduction, and 10 eyes(100%)with severely limited abduction. Conclusion:Eyes with high myopia show abnormal morphology of the band between superior and lateral rectus muscles.
