  • Look Inside

We reviewed the outcome of surgery for paralytic strabismus due to traffic injury during the foregoing 13 years. The series comprised oculomotor palsy 21 cases (24%) , trochlear palsy 48 cases (53%), abducens palsy 13 cases (15%), and multiple palsy 7 cases (8%). Severe cerebral palsy was frequently present in cases of multiple palsy. Initial surgery was performed within one year of onset in 53 cases (56%). As an overall as-sessment, functional cure was obtained in 64 cases (72%) . The highest curative rate was obtained in trochlear palsy at 90%, and the lowest in oculomotor and multiple palsy at 43% each. The findings show the urgent need to develop new surgical approaches for oculomotor and multiple palsies.
