Abstract. Purpose:To report a case of atopic retinal detachment treated by scleral buckling using a wide-viewing system. Case:A 37-year-old male presented with impaired visual acuity in the left eye since 5 months before. He had a history of atopic dermatitis. Findings:Corrected visual acuity was 1.5 right and 0.3 left. Both eyes showed retinal tear adjacent to the ora serrata with retinal detachment. The left eye received surgery including phacoemulsification-aspiration,chandelier illumination through the cannule for 25G vitrectomy, cryocoagulation under wide-viewing system, suturing of silicone sponge, scleral encircling, and insertion of intraocular lens. The right eye was similarly treated one week later. The retina stayed reattached for one year until present. Conclusion:Use of wide-viewing system facilitated observation of the whole fundus and detection of retinal breaks.
