Abstract. Purpose:To report the hypotensive effect of topical latanoprost and tafluprost. Cases and Method:This prospective study was made on 35 eyes of 35 patients who had been treated by latanoprost for glaucoma. They were randomly assigned to 2 groups. One group continued latanoprost and the other group switched to tafluprost. They were evaluated regarding intraocular pressure(IOP)and subjective feelings 8 weeks later. Results:IOP in the first group averaged 17.2±2.2 mmHg initially and 16.3±3.1 mmHg 8 weeks later. The difference was significant(p<0.05). IOP in the second group averaged 17.0±2.0 mmHg initially and 15.9±2.1 mmHg 8 weeks after switching to tafluprost. The difference was significant(p<0.05). Complaint of blurred vision increased from 2 to 4 cases in latanoprost group. Smarting pain decreased from 5 to 2 cases in tafluprost group. Out of 16 cases who switched to tafluprost,7 cases preferred to continue tafluprost and 5 cases remained ambiguous about the choice. Conclusion:Topical latanoprost and tafluprost showed similar ocular hypotensive effect after 8 weeks of treatment. Tafluprost was preferred by larger number of patients than latanoprost due to subjective feelings.
