Abstract. Purpose:To report changes in the shape of eyeball and crystalline lens in children up to 6 years of age. Objects and Method:made on 27 eyes of 27 infants and children ranging from 1 month to 6 years of age, average 1.7 years. T2-weighted MRI images of the eyeball and crystalline lens were expressed as 80 sequences after processing by elliptic Fourier descriptors. MRI imaging was also used to measure the axial length, depth of the anterior chamber and the thickness of crystalline lens. Results:The age was positively correlated with the principal component of elliptic Fourier descriptors of crystalline lens(r=-0.632,p<0.001)and with that of eyeball(r=-0.625,p<0.001). The axial length showed no correlation with the thickness of the lens or the principal component of elliptic Fourier descriptors of the eyeball. The principal component of elliptic Fourier descriptors of the lens and that of eyeball shape showed positive correlation(r=0.563,p=0.0018). Conclusion:The shape of crystalline lens is significantly correlated with the shape and axial length of the eyeball in infants and children.
