Abstract. Purpose:To present results of quantitative analysis of morphology of the crystalline lens in children up to 6 years of age. Objects and Method:This study was made on 27 eyes of 27 infants and children from 1 month to 6 years of age. T2-weighted MRI image of the lens was expressed as 80 sequences after processing by standardized elliptic Fourier descriptors. MRI imaging was also used to measure the axial length, depth of anterior chamber and thickness of crystalline lens. Pearson coefficient was used to evaluate statistical significances. Results:The age was significantly correlated with axial length(r=0.756,p<0.001)and anterior chamber depth(r=0.673,p<0.001). The principal component of elliptic Fourier descriptors was significantly correlated with age(r=-0.614,p<0.001),axial length(r=-0.765,p<0.001),and anterior chamber depth(r=-0.777,p<0.001). Conclusion:Morphology of the crystalline lens in different ages could be quantitatively assessed using elliptic Fourier descriptors.
