多機能電子端末（iPad 2®）のロービジョンエイドとしての有用性

要約　目的：多機能電子端末であるiPad2^®のロービジョンケアでの有用性の報告。対象と方法：当科ロービジョンケア外来に通院中の13症例を対象とした。男性4名，女性9名で，年齢は29～86歳（平均63歳）である。疾患は，糖尿病網膜症5例，網膜色素変性2例，加齢黄斑変性2例，その他4例で，両眼視力は，0.1以下が5例，0.2以下が4例であった。iPad2^®本体を拡大読書器として用い，MNREAD-Jに対して最大読書速度と臨界文字サイズをルーペの使用時と比較し，使用快適度などについてアンケート調査をした。結果：ルーペと比較して，iPad2^®使用では，読書速度と限界文字サイズが向上した。アンケートでは，iPad2^®の使用快適度はルーペよりも高かった。結論：iPad2^®はロービジョンケアでの補助具として選択肢の1つになる。

Abstract.　Purpose：To report the potential usefulness of iPad2^® as a low-vision aid. Cases and Method：This study was made on 13 patients who were attending our Low-Vision Care Center. The series comprised 4 males and 9 females. The age ranged from 29 to 86 years,average 63 years. Visual disability was due to diabetic retinopathy 5 cases,retinitis pigmentosa 2 cases,macular degeneration 2 cases and others 4 cases. Bilateral visual acuity was less than 0.1 in 5 cases and 0.2 in 4 cases. With iPad2^® as image-magnifying video system,patients were evaluated regarding maximum reading speed and critical print size using MNREAD-J charts. They were questionnaired about the system as low-vision aid. Results：Use of iPad^® resulted in improved reading speed and critical print size. Patients expressed more comfort than reading with conventional hand-held magnifier. Conclusion：iPad2^® promises to be of value as a reading aid for low-vision patients.
