Abstract. Purpose:To report the visual field index and quality of vision as related to driving performance of glaucoma patients. Cases and Method:This study was made on 36 glaucoma patients who routinely drove automobiles. The series comprised 25 males and 11 females. The age ranged from 41 to 86 years, average 61 years. Driving performance was evaluated by questionnaire, visual field by VFI of Humphrey perimeter, and quality of vision by VFQ-25 of National Eye Institute. The value in the better eye with higher VFI was used in the evaluation. Results:Driving performance was significantly correlated with VFI(r=-0.40,p<0.05). The correlation was higher in the twilight(p<0.001)and at night(p<0.001). Total score of driving performance was significantly correlated with quality of vision(r=-0.49,p<0.01),distant visual acuity, peripheral vision, and driving. Conclusion:Subjectively evaluated driving performance of glaucoma patients is significantly correlated with VFI in the better eye.
