Abstract. Purpose:To report the correlation between visual acuity and central retinal thickness in branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO)up to 2 years of treatment. Cases and Method:This study was made on 44 eyes of 44 cases with BRVO in its acute stage. The series comprised 18 males and 26 females. The age ranged from 42 to 87 years, average 69 years. Thirty-five eyes received systemic anticoagulant,23 eyes were treated by photocoagulation, and 5 eyes received vitreal injection of bevacizumab. Central retinal thickness was measured in 34 eyes for 12 months and in 24 eyes for 24 months. Results:Visual acuity stabilized after 6 to 12 months. Visual acuity was positively correlated with central retinal thickness. Visual acuity later than 12 months showed a close correlation with central retinal thickness after 3 months. Visual acuity failed to improve when subfoveal fluid was present. Conclusion:In BRVO with macular edema, visual outcome was poor when central retinal thickness was persistently high for over 6 months.
