Panretinal photocoagulation was performed on 37 eyes of 19 patients of diabetic retinopathy. Green laser with wavelength of 532 nm was used throughout. The series comprised 31 eyes of stage B I,4 eyes of stage B II,and 2 eyes of stage B III retinopathy. As a standard procedure, irradiation for 0.1 sec with the spot size of 100μm was used throughout. All the eyes maintained the initial visual acuity at the end of panretinal photocoagulation except one eye that developed vitreous hemorrhage. Short-duration irradiation excluded possible eye movements. Small spot size resulted in reproducible photocoagulation. There was no case that complained of pain during photocoagulation. Fundus hemorrhage without sequelae developed only once after increase of power output. The present method proves to be of value as a practical procedure of panretinal photocoagulation.
