Abstract. Purpose:To report a case of proliferative vitreoretinopathy with severe blood staining of the cornea treated by vitreous surgery with adjunct use of silicone oil, temporary artificial cornea and autokeratoplasty. Case:A 58-year-old man developed recurrence of retinal detachment after buckling surgery in his left eye. Vitreous surgery was followed by expulsive hemorrhage resulting in blood staining of the cornea. Another vitreous surgery was performed using artificial cornea and silicone oil tamponade. The temporarily removed own cornea was resutured after surgery. The blood-stained cornea became transparent 6 months later with the retina reattached. Conclusion:This case illustrates that blood-stained cornea may regain transparency and that temporary use of artificial cornea may be a choice in performing vitreous surgery.
