Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of topical dorzolamide added to prostaglandin-related medications. Object and Method:This prospective study was made on 55 eyes of 55 patients who were treated for primary open-angle glaucoma in its broad sense in fourteen institutions. The series comprised 26 males and 29 females. The age ranged from 43 to 88 years, average 71 years. Fifty cases were receiving latanoprost and five cases travoprost. The intraocular pressure(IOP)averaged 16.7±2.4 mmHg. Each case started additional instillation of 1% dorzolamide thrice daily. Cases were followed up for 6 months. Results:IOP decreased significantly after addition of dorzolamide(p<0.0001). There was no difference in the amount or rate of IOP decrease at 1,3 and 6 months of treatment. Use of dorzolamide was discontinued in one case due to rise in IOP and in 2 cases who dropped out. Conclusion:Topical dorzolamide added to prostaglandin-related medication showed safe and marked hypotensive effect.
