Abstract. Purpose:To report changing trends of Acanthamoeba keratitis in the past 12 years. Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 25 eyes of 22 cases who were treated from 1996 through 2008. The series comprised 11 eyes of 10 males and 14 eyes of 12 females. The age ranged from 14 to 85 years, average 32 years. Results:Six eyes were seen during the initial 10 years and 19 eyes during the last 2 years. Out of 25 eyes,23 eyes were wearing contact lens(CL). Hard CL was mainly used during the initial 10 years and soft CL during the last 2 years. Acanthamoeba keratitis was in the initial stage in the majority of soft CL wearers. Out of 17 eyes treated in the early stage,15 eyes(88%)achieved visual acuity of 1.0 or better. Out of 8 eyes treated in the advanced stage, final visual acuity was 0.1 or less in 6 eyes(75%). Conclusion:Early diagnosis and treatment are major factors for good outcome of Acanthamoeba keratitis.
