Abstract. Purpose:To report isolated microorganisms and visual outcome in infectious keratitis. Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 34 eyes of 34 cases of infectious keratitis during the past 13 months. The series comprised 16 males and 18 females. The age ranged from 15 to 87 years, average 64 years. Visual acuity was evaluated in terms of logMAR. Results:Microorganisms were cultured in 19 cases, including bacteria 12 cases, fungi 5 cases, and acanthoamoeba 2 cases. After treatment, visual acuity improved by 2 lines or more in 8 cases of bacteria, one case of fungus, and 2 cases of acanthoamoeba. Conclusion:Microorganisms were isolated in 56% of cases of infectious keratitis. They included bacteria, fungus, and acanthoamoeba. Visual outcome was poorer in cases of fungal than bacterial infection.
