Abstract. Purpose:To report a case who received insertion of Baerveldt implant for neovascular glaucoma secondary to scleral encircling for proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Case:A 51-year-old male presented with impaired visual acuity. He had been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and received panretinal photocoagulation. He developed cerebral infarction and hemodialysis for renal failure during the past one year. Findings:His corrected visual acuity was 0.8 right and 0.3 left. The right eye developed proliferative diabetic retinopathy with retinal detachment 13 months later. Vitrectomy with scleral encircling was followed by neovascular glaucoma. Intraocular pressure(IOP)remained at 42 mmHg after trabeculectomy. Baerveldt implant was inserted in the equatorial sclera 35 months after his initial visit. IOP has been maintained at 13 mmHg for 3 years until present. Conclusion:This case illustrates that Baerveldt glaucoma implant can be inserted and may prove effective in an eye after scleral encircling.
