Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of vitrectomy for vitreous hemorrhage in eyes of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy. Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 14 eyes of 14 patients who received vitrectomy during the past 7 years. Results:The series comprised 13 males and 1 female. The age ranged from 57 to 81 years, average 70 years. In majority of cases, vitreous hemorrhage developed later than subretinal hematoma. Massive subretinal hematoma was identified during vitrectomy in 11 eyes. Six eyes needed additional silicone oil tamponade. Except one eye with little amount of subretinal hemorrhage, 13 eyes resulted in macular atrophy with final visual acuity of 0.1 or less. Final visual acuity was hand motion or less in 5 out of the 13 eyes. Conclusion:Visual outcome is generally poor in eyes of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy with vitreous hemorrhage due to large amount of subretinal hemorrhage.
