Abstract. Purpose:To report the effect of combined treatment with brinzolamide and latanoprost on the cornea, intraocular pressure and systemic findings. Cases and Method:This prospective study was made on 28 eyes of 28 patients who were receiving topical instillation of latanoprost and beta-blocker. The series comprised of primary open-angle glaucoma 24 eyes, pseudoexfoliation glaucoma 2 eyes and ocular hypertension 2 eyes. The ages ranged from 45 to 84 years, average 68 years. The intraocular pressure(IOP)averaged 18.6±2.7mmHg. Topical beta-blocker was switched by 1% brinzolamide. Results:IOP decreased significantly to 16.7±2.8mmHg(p<0.05)1 month after switching, and 16.3±2.8mmHg(p<0.01)3 months after switching. AD score for superficial punctate keratopathy improved in 1 eye(4%), remained unchanged in 26 eyes(93%), and worsened in 1 eye(4%). There was no change in central corneal thickness, population of corneal endothelial cells, blood pressure or pulse rate. Conclusion:Combined treatment with brinzola-mide and latanoprost is safe and effective for open-angle glaucoma.
