Abstract. Purpose:To report the duration, or washout time, until the ocular hypotensive effect disappears after withdrawal of bunazosin. Cases and Method:This study was made on 15 patients who were using 0.01% bunazosin once a day for open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. The series comprised 7 males and 8 females. Their age ranged from 45 to 75 years, average 62 years. The intraocular pressure(IOP)before treatment ranged from 21 to 24mmHg, average 21.9±1.0mmHg. IOP before withdrawal of bunazosin ranged from 18 to 20mmHg, average 18.9±0.7mmHg. IOP was measured once a week after withdrawal. Results:IOP returned to baseline level after an average of 3.9±1.4 weeks in slow-responding eyes of each patient. It took 3.2±1.4 weeks in prompt-responding eyes. IOP returned to baseline level after 6 weeks in all the eyes. Conclusion:It takes an average of 3.6 weeks before IOP returns to baseline level after withdrawal of bunazosin with certain individual fluctuations.
