We treated two eyes of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy(PCV)by 2 sessions each of photodynamic therapy(PDT). One was a 74-year-old male. Corrected visual acuity(VA)in the affected eye was 0.5. Pigment epithelial detachment was present temporal to the fovea. Indocyanine green(ICG)angiography showed polypoidal lesions nasal to the fovea. PDT was applied to the latter alone. VA improved to 1.0. Subretinal hematoma developed into vitreous hemorrhage. Vitrectomy resulted in VA of 0.03 9 months later. The other was a 71-year-old female with VA of 1.0 in the affected eye. Elevated orange-red lesion was present temporal to the disc. Argon laser photocoagulation was followed by enlargement of lesion towards the macula. Fluorescein angiography showed multiple points of leakage within 2 disc diopters from the fovea. ICG angio-graphy showed multiple foci of PCV. PDT was applied to all the lesions except the area near the optic disc. All the lesions became scarified. VA improved to 1.0 18 months later. These cases of PCV illustrate that visual outcome may vary after PDT.
