Abstract. Purpose:To report the rate of pathological vessels one year after photodynamic therapy(PDT)for polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy(PCV). Cases and Method:PDT was performed for PCV in 21 eyes of 21 patients. The series comprised 19 males and 2 females. The age ranged from 58 to 91 years, average 74 years. The fundus lesion was irradiated for 83 seconds by laser with the wavelength of 679nm 15 minutes after injection of verteporfin. Results:When examined by indocyanine green angiography one year later,20 eyes(95%)showed persistent pathological choroidal vessels. Polypoidal lesion was also present in 4 of the 20 eyes. One eye could not be evaluated due to subretinal hemorrhage. Conclusion:Pathological choroidal vessels may persist in spite of high rate of disappearance of polypoidal lessions when seen one year after PDT for PCV. This finding suggests possible recurrence of PCV in future.
