Purpose:To report the state of consciousness about the eye and visual functions of athletes. Method:We interviewed and examined 7 top-class skiers including 6 males and 1 female. Their age averaged 27 years. They were asked by questionnaire followed by ophthalmological examinations including refraction, visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, accommodation and convergence, depth perception, ocular position and motility, stereoscopic vision, intraocular pressure and funduscopy. Results:In spite of excellent performance as skiers, many athletes lacked adequate visual function during activity and needed correction for refractive anomalies. They had high levels of consciousness to the eye and visual functions on individual basis but not as a team. Conclusion:A lot is needed for ophthalmologists to enhance visual functions of athletes.
