Abstract. We diagnosed three girls with acute optic neuritis. Multiple sclerosis was detected later. They were aged 6,8 and 9 years respectively. Both eyes were involved in 2 cases. All the cases had symptoms of common cold or viral infection before onset of eye lesions. The visual acuity was severe with no light perception in 3 eyes,0.02 and 0.15 in one eye each. Constriction of visual field was present in all the eyes. Funduscopic lesion comprised papillitis 3 eyes and retrobulbar neuritis 2 eyes. Diagnosis of multiple sclerosis was based on detection of cerebral plaque by magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). All the cases were treated by pulsed corticosteroid diromg the early stage of the diseases.Normalization of visual acuity and field was achieved within 10 days of treatment in 3 eyes and within 6 weeks in 2 eyes. These cases illustrate that pulsed corticosteroid may be effective for optic neuropathy associated with multiple sclerosis in children.
