  • Look Inside

A 62-year-old female presented with bilateral visual loss since previous afternoon. She had received interferon therapy for hepatitis C virus 8 years before. Her corrected visual acuity was 0.01 right and 0.02 left. Mild optic disc edema in both eyes was the sole abnormal finding. Three courses of pulsed corticosteroid therapy failed to induce improved visual acuity. She complained of numbness in the lower extremity 4 weeks after onset of eye problems. Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)of the brain showed a demyelinating lesion, leading to the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis with acute optic neuritis as the initial manifestation. This type of multiple sclerosis appears to be extremely rare. To our best knowledge, there has been no report describing a similar case.
