  • Look Inside

We found a law by classifying 80 eyes of branch retinal vein occlusion according to the pattern of vessels at the arteriovenous crossing. When an arterial branch is located posterior to the vein along or near the vascular arcade,a venous branch after the first branching is liable to be compressed by a major artery. In such a case, the hemorrhage may involve the macula resulting in poor visual acuity. In the present series of 80 eyes, hemorrhage was located in the macular area in 40 eyes, outside the macular area in 17 eyes, and in and outside the macular area in 23 eyes. Our law was valid in 35 eyes(88%),17 eyes(100%),and 7 eyes(30%)respectively. This law is claimed to be of value in predicting the visual outcome in branch retinal vein occlusion.
