  • Look Inside

We examined 35 eyes of 34 patients with polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy. As inclusion criteria in the study, all the eyes had initial visual acuity of 0.5 or over. Indocyanine green(ICG)videoangiography was performed in all the cases. During follow-up for an average of 20months,macular findings deteriorated in 19 eyes(54%). The visual acuity decreased by 2 lines or more in 16 eyes(46%)due to progression of macular lesions. Eyes manifesting deterioration of macular findings showed hyperfluorescence simulating aneurysms, dye leakage from or increase in the number of polypoidal lesions by ICG angiography at the initial examination. These findings show that the visual outcome of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy may be poor in eyes with initially fair visual acuity. We advocate early therapeutic intervention when ICG angiography suggests progression of macular involvement even in eyes with fair visual acuity.
