We performed indocyanine green (ICG) angio-graphy in 47 eyes of 41 cases of age-related macular degeneration with choroidal neovascular-ization (CNV). CNVs posterior to the retinal pig-ment epithelium (RPE) showed intense fluores-cence in the early phase and less intense one in the later phase. CNVs posterior to RPE detachment showed apparent dye leakage. Subretinal CNVs were characterized by clear configuration in the early phase and dye leakage in the late phase. There was a tendency for fluorescence to become less intense along with progression of fibrosis of the CNVs. Fibrotic membranes showed no fluores-cence.
