We performed indocyanine green (ICG) angiography in 39 eyes with 49 lesions of detachment of retinal pigment epithelium (PED) without choroidal neovascularization. The cases were followed up for 6 to 96 months, average 50 months. Twenty-five lesions showed hyperfluorescence. During the follow up, the PED in 5 lesions enlarged to 1.5 to 2 times in size. Other lesions either remained stationary, became atrophic or disap-peared. Eight lesions showed irregular hyperfuorescence. These lesions either remained stationary, became atrophic or disappeared. Sixteen lesions showed irregular hypofluorescence. One lesion developed choroidal neovascularization, another developed choroidal folds and two lesions developed microrips. The findings show that close observation is indicated for eyes with PEDs which show irregular hypofluorescence by ICG angiography.
