  • Look Inside

A 14-year-old girl with atopic dermatitis received uneventful surgery for hypermature cataract in her right eye. Surgery was performed by phacoemulsification-aspiration and insertion of acrylic 3-piece intraocular lens(IOL). Four years later, she presented with monocular diplopia. One of the haptic had separated from the optics of IOL with the optic dislocated nasal-inferiorly. Monocular diplopia disappeared following implantation of a new IOL. Scanning electron microscopy showed cracks at the site of optics, indicating that the haptic had slipped out. We advocate due attention in the selection and insertion of IOL in young persons.
