Purpose:To report the outcome of cataract surgery on patients with retinitis pigmentosa(RP)and to evaluate associated problems. Cases:This retrospective study was entered by 22 eyes of 16 patients who received cataract surgery during a 3-year period. The ages ranged from 40 to 82 years,average 61 years. Their visual acuity(VA)averaged 0.148. Visual field defect for Ⅰ-2 isopter by Goldmann perimetry averaged 98%. All the eyes received phacoemulsification-aspiration with intraocular lens implantation. Results:VA 3 months after surgery averaged 0.426. Difference from preoperative VA was significant(p=0.0097). There was no significant change in visual field. Conclusion:VA and quality of life improved following cataract surgery on patients with RP.
