  • Look Inside

We reviewed 14 eyes regarding the therapeutic outcome of macular edema secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO). All the eyes received treatment within 7 months after presumed onset of BRVO. Eight eyes were treated by photocoagulation. Six eyes underwent vitreous surgery with artificial posterior vitreous detachment. All the eyes showed improvement of macular edema with increase of visual acuity by 2 lines or more. Two eyes showed improved visual acuity following vitreous surgery after photocoagulation proved futile. Cases treated by photocoagulation had shorter duration after onset and better final visual acuity than those treated by vitreous surgery. The findings show that photocoagulation and vitreous surgery are effective for macular edema secondary to BRVO.
