We performed vitreous surgery for branch retinal vein occlusion in 30 eyes of 29 patients during the past 47 months. The age ranged from 52 to 83 years, average 66 years. The interval between onset and surgery was less than 13 months. Surgery was performed for macular edema 21 eyes, vitreous hemorrhage 8 eyes, and epimacular membrane 1 eye. Postoperative visual acuity improved in all the eyes with vitreous hemorrhage or epimacular membrane. It improved in 13 eyes(62%)of macular edema, remained unchanged in 5 eyes(24%),and deteriorated in 3 eyes(14%). The findings show that vitreous surgery may be effective for branch retinal vein occlusion in its late stage.
