　重度から中等度の知的能力低下を認めた3例のアルツハイマー型痴呆（DAT：dementia of the Alz-heimer type）患者を対象に，2種類の手続き記憶課題を実施し，その獲得と長期保持（1カ月，5カ月，20カ月）について検討した。

　3例のDAT患者は，いずれの課題についても，試行を重ねるごとに所要時間が減少し，5カ月後も短い時間で課題を遂行できた。3例中1例については，獲得から20カ月後の検査においても所要時間が短く，手続き記憶が保たれていたと考えられる。これより，中等度以上のアルツハイマー型痴呆患者であっても，新しい手続き記憶を獲得し，長期保持できることが示唆された。DATにおいて，進行期にも保たれる能力が示されたことは，同疾患患者における認知的リハビリテーションの可能性を示唆しており，残された能力を活かしたQOLの向上が期待される。

We never forget how to ride a bicycle, and it is thought that procedural memories are retained for a long time. Recently, it was reported that patients with dementia of the Alzheimer type (DAT) could not only acquire , but also retain , long-lasting procedural memories.
