緒言

　驚愕てんかん（startle epilepsy）は感覚刺激によつて誘発される反射てんかん（reflex epilepsy）の1つできわめて稀なものであるが，なかでも不意の接触，叩打によつて誘発されるものは聴覚刺激によるものに比し，はるかに少ない。本症はDunsmure^1）が1874年，不意に頭部に触れると瞬間的な脱力発作をおこす5歳の男児例を報告しているのが恐らく最初のものと思われる。次いで，1886年にはJackson^2）が頭部への不意の接触によつて誘発される2症例を報告した。以来欧米での報告例は20例を越えるが^3），本邦での完全な報告例は，われわれが調べ得たところでは未だ数例にすぎない^4,5）。私どもは最近その定型的な症例を経験したので報告する。

A case of startle epilepsy, which was precipitated by somatosensory stimuli, was reported. The seizure, characterized by five to ten second of un-consiousness, was induced only when he was sur-prised by proprioceptive or extroceptive stimuli, i. e. touch, tap and stumbling. Seizure was induced by stimulating any part of the body.

This patient, 12 years old boy, has the history of neonatal convulsion subsequent to perinatal asphyxia. After this episode, he had been free from seizure untill 11 years of age when he de-veloped present illness.

Electroencephalograph showed high voltage slow wave and, spike and wave complex over right parietal and temporal regions. Pneumoencephalo-graphy disclosed mild dilatation of right side of ventricular system. Suzuki-Binet test for I. Q. was 93.
