A case of startle epilepsy, which was precipitated by somatosensory stimuli, was reported. The seizure, characterized by five to ten second of un-consiousness, was induced only when he was sur-prised by proprioceptive or extroceptive stimuli, i. e. touch, tap and stumbling. Seizure was induced by stimulating any part of the body.

This patient, 12 years old boy, has the history of neonatal convulsion subsequent to perinatal asphyxia. After this episode, he had been free from seizure untill 11 years of age when he de-veloped present illness.

Electroencephalograph showed high voltage slow wave and, spike and wave complex over right parietal and temporal regions. Pneumoencephalo-graphy disclosed mild dilatation of right side of ventricular system. Suzuki-Binet test for I. Q. was 93.
