  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

As a report on cases of an arteriovenous fistula of the temporal vessel Winslow and Edwards des-cribed 20 cases totaled in the world literature of up to 1934. Later, Jahnke et al. (1954) reported 2 cases of this lesion and Guida et al. (1968) one case. Ac-cordingly, only 23 cases in total have been reported up to now, but there is no reported about it in our country.

As we recently experienced one case of traumatic arteriovenous fistula of the superficial temporal vessel, it will be reported here. This is a 36-year-old male who was admitted to our clinic with the chief com-plaint of pulsation in his right temporal.

Five months before admission he was injured in the right temporal region in a trafic accident. Three days after injury the patient began to hear a pulsating murmur in the affected part and at the same time a vein in his right scalp became enlarged unusually. Serial angiography of the exter-nal cartotid artery disclosed an anastomosis between the parietal branch of the superficial temporal artery and vein.

In the present case, by excising the arteriovenous fistula all the above symptoms disappeared.
