  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Nitrazepam was evaluated in infants and children with myoclonic seisures under the double blind con-dition. Nitrazepam or placebo was added to the anticonvulsants already being used.

25 cases out of 45 cases (56%) on nitrazepam showed marked seizure control, while placebo group showed no change.

Clinical improvement was occasionaly accompa-nied by the improvement in EEG. And when EEG improvement was not obtaind, seizure often relapsed.

The most frequent side effect was hypotonia, but these were all in mild form. In the cases with severe cerebral palsy, nitrazepam should be used carefully.

These results so far compare favourably with the presently available medications for the treatment of myoclonic seizures in infancy and childhood.
