  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The authors reported about experiences with Nitra-zepam in the treatment of 29 epileptics, including 12 cases of infantile spasms. The drug was very effective for 6 cases (50%) of infantile spasms : with complete control of spasms in 3 cases and with 90% or more reduction in number of them in 3 cases, while the medication was relatively ineffective against epilepsies except infantile spasms. In 2 of 5 cases with infantile spasms unresponsive to ACTH, spasms were considerably well controlled.

As side-effects, sleepiness and ataxia were observed in cases for whom the drug was given in combination with conventional antiepileptic drugs.

It was concluded that Nitrazepam was an epoch-making drug in the treatment of infantile spasms.
