  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The authors studied on effects of monosodium tri-chlorethyl phosphate (Tricloryl) for sleep activation in clinical EEG. The subjects consist of 147 patients with various diseases in neuropsychiatric fields. For 28 of them, Tricloryl syrup was given.

Results obtained were analysed from the following points of view, in comparison with those of Seconal:

1) hypnotic effect

2) sleep EEG patterns

3) activation of abnormal EEG patterns

4) side-effect.

The results are summarized as follows:

1) sleep patterns induced by the drug appear to be similar to those in natural sleep, or increase of fast activity is minimum.

2) Not only hypnotic but also activating effects are reasonablly good. Hypnotic effect was observed in 72% of the subjects (68% by the tablet and 89% by the syrup). The effect is better than one of Seconal.

3) in general, depth of sleep is not deep. This could be one of reasons of the good results in the activating effect.

4) Side-effects which are observed often after sleep activation induced by various hypnotic drugs, for instances, ataxia, dizziness, euphoria, were mi-nimum, by the drug even if they appeared.

Value of the drug for sleep activation was empha-sized.
