The widespread use of stereotactic operation tech-niques for the treatment of involuntary movements in man has made it imperative to find a safe, effec-tive and reliable method of producing reversible brain lesions to guide the surgeon in placing in the thalamus and basal ganglia.

The development of a long slender refrigeration probe with thermocouple attachment has made it possible to cool localized areas in brain in a con-trolled fashion.

The neuropyslological experiments were done in order to observe the reversible interruption of func-tion of the nervous temperature on conduction times and somatic and synaptic potentials were investigated.

From the series of experimental study, the tem-perature should be used for temporary interruption on nervous system is 5℃ to 3℃ and when the temperature down to below 0℃ even in 1 min., the permanent lesion will be made.

The size of reversible lesion depends on speed of cooling to temperature of reversible change and in case of rapidly cooling the diameter of reversible lesion is 2mm. and in case of slowly cooling is 4 mm. On the other hand, the temporary reversible lesion has very sharp circumscribed margin from surrounding areas.
