Though, since Adrian's first report, it is recognized by many investigators that alpha wave synchronizes with the photic flicker stimulation of about 10 flashes per second, little has been known about the brain wave response caused by single flash stimulus.

The attempts were made in this paper to elucidate the influence of a single flash stim-ulus upon the EEG of normal adult subjects. EEGs were traced monopolarily from occi-pital, parietal and frontal regions with in-different electrodes on both ear lobes.

The average property in the EEGs before the onset of the suimulation were shown in their simple auto-correlation curves and pow-er spectra, while those of the EEG responses caused by the stimulus were carved in relief by obtaining the cross-correlation curves be-tween the EEG tracings and the stimulation and the power spectra of those curves. Ana-lysing scope of the EEG tracings was about 13-14sec.

Most of the dominant occipital alpha wave were diminished or blocked temporarily by the onset of the stimulation, but enhanced after a while. In some case, however, only the enhancement of alpha wave was followed by the stimulation.
