Levomepromazine was administered to 20 cases of psychoses (12 schizophrenias, 7 de-pressions and 1 mixed psychosis).

1) Among 20 cases, 9 (45%) showed mar- ked, 6 (30%) moderate improvement and 5 (25%) no improvement.

2) Of 12 schizophrenias, 5 (41.7%) showed maked, 5 moderate improvement and 2 (16.6%) were unchanged.

3) Of 7 depressions, 3 (42.9%) showed marked, 1 (14.2%) moderate improvement and 3 were unchanged.

4) The effective therapeutic dose was 150-200mg. daily, by mouth, but it was more effective to administered over 3000mg. in total dose for 31-60 days or more.

5) The physiologic side effects of this drug were drowsiness, weakness, nasal con-gestion, tachycardia, dizziness, constipation, etc. but those were not so serious and were less than those of chlorpromazine or reser-pine.

6) This drug was effective in the treat-ment of psychotic symptoms such as hallu-cination, delusion, depressive feeling, anxiety, agitation, psychomotor excitement.
