Fifteen shizophrenic patients (8 male, 7 female patients) received Novo Semilente Insulin (S. L. I. ) coma therapy. All of them had been treated before with regular ins-ulin coma therapy, or electroconvulsive therapy and/or autonomic drug treatment, and had not been improved. S.L. I. was injected (60-180 units) at 6:00 a. m. and the treatment was terminated by 8:00p. m., using intravenous glucose (40%, 60cc), V,-B1, 10mg, Vitacamphor 1cc, and gavage glucose (30%, 300cc).

Treatments were given 3 days a week. Psychic and somatic state, electroencepha-logram and blood sugar rate were closely observed throughout the treatment period. Results are as follows.

1. The effective dose which provokes the first coma ranges from 100 to 200 units, and the dosage need not be increased so much as in the regular insulin treatment.

2. An 6:00 a. m. injection of moderate dosage S. L. I. makes every patient fall into coma 1 to 6 times by 8:00., and between the comatose states there exist lucid inte-rvals indicated by both normal EEG and normal blood sugar rate.
