  • Look Inside

Tumors of the septum pellucidum have been reported infrequently and most cases of these could not be identified clinically but recognized by necropsy. Besides, we can not fined any report of tumor of the septum pellucidum in Japan. Up to the present 72 cases were report-ed or collected from the literature by French and Bucy, Cushid and Gutierrez-Mahoney and others. Our present report of 5 cases raises the total of confirmed cases of tumor of the septum pellucidum up to 77.

Case 1. A 32-year-old man was admitted to the Surgical Division of the First National Hospital of Tokyo with a history of headache, nausea, vomiting, unsteady gait and a previ-ous episode of disturbance of consciousness ac-companied with urinary incontinence for three days. By ventriculography it was demonstr-ated that the bilateral lateral ventricules were moderately dilated symmetrically and their anterior horns diverged from each other in the anteroposterior view, and in the lateral view a large shadow, having a sharp border, was situated in the anterior horn. Operation was made and showed the tumor appearing to be solid, situating in the septum pellucid-urn.
