  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Three cases of congenital cysts of cavum sep-ti pellucidi, one of noncommunicating and two, communicating type, are presented and those clinical pictures and meanings in practice are discussed.

The author classified the syndromes of the cysts into two groups.

1) Chronic syndrome: feeble mindedness,epi-leptic seizure, habitual headache, and other neurotic complaints.

These symptoms might be related to the co-nstitutional weakness o f brain or disposition. Frequently, the communicating cyst may cause this type of syndrome.

2) Acute (intra-cranial pressure) symdrome: attack of severe headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, motor paralysis and mental changes. These may be result from tumor-like growth of cyst. Frequently, non-communicating cyst shows this syndrome.

The criteria for the x-ray diagnosis of cyst of cavum septi pellucidi was also added.

A case of non-communicating cyst showed improvement by conversion of a non-commun-icating to a communicating cyst, i-e-by rupt-uring the cyst wall and producing a fistula into the left lateral ventricle.
